This light is then transmitted along the length of the flexible light guide rod. The majority of the light is retained inside because of internal refraction while some of it is emitted at the side wall utilizing the contact surface irregularity of the core and the cladding. The emitting light at the side wall results in illumination of the flexible light guide rod.
An emission light from the flexible light guide rod depends on the color of an LED. When a red LED as light source is used, the emitting light from the flexible light guide rod will be red, and when a blue LED is used, the emitting light will be blue.
